Radio Revolutionist and Queer Artist Sidney wrote this over at Bleeding Queers:

“I always thought it was strange, and certainly racist that nude "Natives" were okay to view. Whereas gawking at naked white people was bad manners. Indeed these daze sometimes a crime. If the above or below lads were Northern European I ‘might’ have a problem with the server. Ever since I received a gift subscription of the Geographic when I was 10 I thought it’s odd that some folks were less than others. That was the inescapable lesson of that ‘zine. Mind you it ‘was’ the only game in town. If you ‘wanted’ to see naked folks, and you were a kid the National Geographic was our porn site of choice. Still you see my point. I always wanted to print up a reverse National Geographic where westerners would be shown in the same paternalist way as "we" saw the "Natives", …especially when they were naked.”

    Great Post! I have wondered the same. I too used NG as my source of “body exlporation” as a kid. The Library was my favorite place to be.
