Oh my fucking goodness, I’m so excited, you have no fucking clue haha xD I was browsing through a medieval music shop yesterday and stumbled upon Valravn (both albums are on Spotify), a Danish electro folk band. The cover looked neat, the description sounded interesting and when I read that my favourite band Omnia loves the music of Valravn I knew I had to try them. So I fired up Spotify and tuned in to their two albums and what can I say… I love *every single track* on them! Just wow! If you like me just a little bit you *have* to at least try them (click the MySpace link above) and if you like them please consider buying a CD! They’re on iTunes and 7digital.
The best thing about this is: I just checked their website and, I mean what were the odds!?, they are playing in my hometown tomorrow! I’ll so force Soja to go with me! Did I mention that I’m excited beyond words?
Swedish designers get commuters off the escalator by making the stairs more fun. It’s awesome. And, yet, part of me wonders how creepy this would be if you were descending into the subway alone late at night. Plink…plink….plink… [via Boing Boing]
Oh my green blossom, it’s so hot outside. I’ll go skinny dipping with Soja next Friday but besides that there’s hardly a way to avoid getting beat by the sun. Ugh. But I’ll try to enjoy it. Cold cake & milk and my Victorian hustler are definitely helpful. And being nekkid all day :p
Do you remember about darth hamster by the way? I blogged one of his videos at milkboys a while ago and was kinda surprised that I didn’t get angry mails from his mum (happens with nearly all YouTubers besides Joe). I found his tumblelog today (thx Olly) and realised that he reblogged quite a few images from here :D I dunno if he didn’t link the source because he’s lazy or because some people might think I’m a pedo (since you’re not allowed to find underage boys cute nowadays, even if it’s a totally asexual cuteness and you’re pretty young yourself) and he doesn’t want to be associated with this blog but however, just thought it was funny to stumble upon these pictures by accident :)
I adore the intro of True Blood. It fulfils pretty much every cliché we Germans have about the American South and I love the song while I’m not into such stuff normally ^.^ I watched only two episodes so far but it seems to be pretty interesting. I wonder how many people realise that the vampires are actually a metaphor for any minority who had to fight for its rights in American history – like black people or gays.
Getting into anime means having your horizons broadened, learning about strange and new concepts like senpai and kohai (senior/junior in a school or organization), something that doesn’t exist in English. It also means getting used to some gender-related surprises, thanks to the extensive Japanese tradition of stories involving males assuming female roles or vice-versa. Appreciating the comedy and/or drama of mixed-up gender roles goes back very far, to the kabuki plays of the Edo Period in which extremely talented male actors would fill female roles, or the Takarazuka Revue, the all-female troupe that’s put on on a variety of shows with women expertly playing male roles since 1913. Anime is rife with stories that break gender rules, from the classic Rose of Versailles, which follows Lady Oscar, raised as a boy, throughout the events of the French Revolution, or the Rumiko Takahashi classic Ranma 1/2, about a boy cursed to change into a girl whenever he gets wet, usually with hilarious results. When the Swedish (yay!) game company DICE released Battlefield 1942 seven years ago it was the revolution of multiplayer tactic shooters. It was the first game that would let you fight as infantry, in a tank, in a ship, in a plane, in a jeep and so on. It was just a hell load of fun – and still is! I played it in a clan for a good while and made some great friends there. Our clan was specialized on a certain map, called Wake Island. This fact amazes me because Wake is one of two maps in the newst baby of DICE: Battlefield 1943 :) It’s supposed to get less tactical, more straight forward to make it easier for noobs to get into the game. 1942 had hundredes of tactical options, 1943 will be just fun you can jump right into. Can’t wait to play it!
In celebration of Earth Day, NASA presents images of Earth captured by cameras aboard the International Space Station. Traveling at an approximate speed of 17,500 miles per hour, the space station orbits Earth every 90 minutes from an altitude of approximately 220 miles, and can be seen from Earth with the naked eye. Its crew experiences 16 sunrises and sunsets each day.
“Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short and wear shirts and boots because it’s okay to be a boy; for girls it’s like promotion. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, according to you, because secretly you believe that being a girl is degrading.”
"I did not kill my father," this slim novel begins, "but I sometimes felt I had helped him on his way." Soon the mother is dead as well, and four children are left to fend for themselves in a secluded house in a dying part of the city.
There’s Julie, the eldest, a ripe & willful beauty who’s almost a woman; there’s Jack, the narrator, a boy bewildered by his growing body & appetites; there’s Sue, bookish & ever-observant; and then there’s Tom, the baby of the family, who actually seems to get younger, regressing as the days go by. These four form an uneasy family, slowly learning to be self-sufficient in this strangely apocalyptic setting.
But an intruder in the form of Julie’s new boyfriend threatens their fragile stasis by asking too many questions. How long have the four of them been alone? And just what is buried under the crumbling pile of cement in the basement?
I read The Cement Garden when I was 14 and did a summer job in a small bookstore where I hardly had anything to do than reading books. It was an intense experience back then and you should give it a try if you’re into this kind of dark “social study” novels. There is also a film, in case you’re too lazy to read ;p And, yes, it has a lot to perv over… including girls looking like cute boys, cute boys dressing as girls, male and female nudity, masturbation scenes and Incest.
Sleepy Time. Come cuddle @heartkkore, we can watch salad fingers on my iPod? :3 [milkjosh]
