Steampunked Home

Bruce and Melanie Rosenbaum started ModVic (Modern Victorian) Home Restoration in June 2007 and have now moved onto steampunk Home Design. ModVic’s mission is to authentically restore historic Victorian homes (1850 – 1910) to their original beauty and richness while completely modernizing the home’s systems, functional layout and conveniences for the family of today (sound familiar?). Bruce and Melanie also love the steampunk design aesthetic of combining the best of Victorian high design and craftsmanship with modern functionality and usefulness.

The Sojourner

Oh my, I want this one so bad… but it would look pretty silly if you don’t turn your whole desktop into something steampunkish. or even the whole room *sigh*

Looking as though it has traveled the world in the backpack of an intrepid explorer, this keyboard is crafted in polished brass, then artificially tarnished. The slightly weathered keys are electroplated in brass and are quite striking against the aged leather faceplate and parchment key inserts.

They have also a neat steampunk notebook :)

Steampunk Mag #5

Hurrah! After a year’s absence, Steampunk Magazine is back with issue #5 — either buy the handsome object in print, or get a free Creative Commons licensed download.

The new ish has short fiction from John Reppion and Jimmy T Hand, instructions for making an “emergency welding machine,” information about being a “tramp printer,” Steampunk madlibs (“On the construction of the Tesla Coil”), an interview with Voltaire, Bruce Sterling’s “User’s Guide to Steampunk,” and much, much more.
